Use your own figures
Plan infrastructure for a Nigerian team using your own measurements and current costs.
Future data = current data + daily growth × days. Primary capacity = (future data + OS, logs and temporary space) ÷ (1 − free-space percentage). Backup capacity assumes each retained full copy is the future dataset size.
Measure the data you actually retain
Record database files, uploads, generated outputs and any other persistent application data. Estimate growth from several representative days; a single quiet day can understate demand. This linear estimate assumes data is retained throughout the horizon without deletion.
Keep operating room separate
Include the operating system, log rotation, application releases, database maintenance and temporary processing files. The free-space percentage is a planning target, not a statement that your software will work at every level of disk utilisation. Compare usable capacity, not only an advertised disk number.
Understand the backup estimate
The backup result models independent full copies without compression or deduplication. Incremental systems, change rates, encryption and metadata can produce different totals. Measure your actual backup product before purchasing retention capacity, and keep off-server copies outside the primary failure domain.
Review growth before the disk is full
Record the estimate date and check actual growth against the projection. Recalculate after adding customers, video uploads, reporting history or another workload. More disk does not by itself improve database query speed or prove that a backup is restorable.
